Marine Systems Engineer
The role
As Senior / Lead Marine Systems Engineer you deliver marine systems engineering that is technically sound, compliant and buildable – within budget and schedule. Depending on the project you work as part of a team or you lead a small group of Marine Systems Engineers and Designers.
You will:
-
Take responsibility for the design and conversion of all marine systems, equipment and marine piping on FPSOs (and related SPM systems).
-
Work on conceptual and basic engineering of marine systems: power generation, ballast, bilge, cooling water, fuel oil, cargo handling, ventilation and utility systems.
-
Create equipment specifications, P&IDs, arrangements and design reports.
-
Engage in procurement activities: vendor communication, technical bid evaluation, package engineering and follow-up.
-
Determine heat balances, pipe sizes, power requirements and system capacities.
-
Participate in design reviews, HAZIDs and HAZOPs and support client, class and third-party approvals.
-
Support the site team and answer queries from yard, client, certifying authorities and subcontractors – including occasional visits to international shipyards.
This is a key role in a relatively small, senior team. You take ownership, keep oversight of interfaces and are able to represent the marine discipline towards clients, vendors and other disciplines.
Your profile
You’re an engineer with strong leadership and social skills. You enjoy solving complex system issues, you’re proactive and you’re comfortable making and defending technical choices.
You bring:
-
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering or Naval Architecture (marine focus).
-
6+ years of relevant experience in marine systems basic engineering, ideally in the offshore oil & gas industry as lead engineer or owner’s representative.
-
Proven experience with ship / tanker design and systems: pumps, coolers, valves, engines and related auxiliary systems.
-
Familiarity with rules of major classification societies (ABS, DNV, BV, LR) and international codes and standards (e.g. MARPOL, SOLAS, HSE UK, PFEER).
-
Fluency in English, both spoken and written.
-
Willingness and ability to travel to international shipyards for FEED studies and possible EPC / conversion phases; being able to travel freely within the EU/Schengen is an advantage.
Where will you be working?
You’ll join a Dutch-rooted offshore company with a global track record in floating production (FPSOs) and advanced single point mooring systems. For decades they have been designing, building, owning and operating offshore assets that run 24/7 in harsh environments – from concept studies and FEEDs through construction and long-term operations.
The Naval & Marine Section is a compact, highly experienced team at the heart of the FPSO design. Here, marine systems, hull, stability and operations come together. The set-up is hands-on and low on bureaucracy: short lines, quick decisions and direct involvement in real hardware. Your work doesn’t end in a report – it gets built, commissioned and operated.
There is a strong engineering culture with a growing focus on energy efficiency and the energy transition. You’ll have room to deepen your technical expertise, mentor younger engineers and grow into broader lead or project roles if that fits your ambition.
What's in it for you?
You can expect a technically challenging role with visible impact on international offshore projects, plus solid employment conditions, including:
-
Full-time position (40 hours per week) in an international environment.
-
Competitive salary, plus 13th month, holiday allowance and travel allowance.
-
29 days of paid holiday per year, with the possibility to purchase 10 additional days.
-
Collective health insurance scheme.
-
Excellent pension plan with the full contribution paid by the employer.
-
Structured onboarding so you feel at home quickly.
-
Voluntary social activities such as sports events, CPC run, Friday drinks, quiz nights, sail day and an annual Christmas party.
